Uyeasound pier development

ITS CONSTRUCTION work may still be ongoing, but development of the new Uyeasound pier and breakwater is already a success story.

The largest project currently in the north isles, the huge development by Tulloch Developments is still ahead of schedule and within budget.

Working director Alistair Tulloch said he was delighted with the progress being made.

“It’s going ahead pretty much to plan. The main part of the job is the sheet piling which is 75 per cent complete,” he said.

The company has also apparently escaped rising prices in steel and iron ore which could have caused headaches for the pier’s development.

Mr Tulloch said the order for the steel had been placed last year when the contract was awarded to the company, which faced no price increases since.

“The job is going ahead to the original budget,” he added.

Main construction work of the pier is expected to be completed before the end of the year, with the final touches being added after Christmas.
