A school bus from Shetland, with love

FROM Shetland With Love is well on the way towards the purchase of a school bus for the orphans of God’s Golden Acre in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, Organisers Mona and Iain McAlpine have again thanked the people of Shetland for the many generous donations over the past year.

The family of the late Kerry McDairmid, who died tragically in South Africa, staged a sponsored hike from North Setter, Weisdale, to the burn of Lunklett and raised £1,592. Part of the money will go to Kerry’s Christmas, a yearly party for the children in memory of Kerry, and the rest towards the bus fund.

Strongman Stuart Wadley gave a “lift” of £250 while to date the yearly abseil at the Cole of Quarff has raised £3,540. Hats off to the “swingers” who braved the awesome drop.

Mrs McAlpine said: “Considering the needs of the various charities it never fails to amaze me how the Shetland folk respond to our charity, often with private and anonymous donations.”
