Cafe a hit

THE CAFE restaurant at Shetland Museum and Archives is out-performing its business plan, trustees heard at a meeting of Shetland Amenity Trust this week.

General manager of the trust Jimmy Moncrieff said that reports of losses in Hay’s Dock cafe restaurant in the first year were “misleading”. He said there would always be losses associated with starting up, but soon there would be a profit.

Trustee Andrew Blackadder said that this year the eatery would break even and see a profit next year.

Chairman Brian Gregson said reports that the quality and value on offer at Hay’s Dock were “excellent”. He said: “It has proved to be an almost indispensible adjunct to the museum and archives and the staff and management should be congratulated. The catering business is not easy and they have done extremely well.”
