NorthLink to cut four finance jobs in Lerwick

FOUR jobs look set to go at NorthLink’s Lerwick office after the company decided to move part of its finance operation to the Scottish mainland.

A company spokesman confirmed the posts would go early in the New Year and the work would be transferred to the company’s offices in Gourock and Aberdeen.

SIC convener Sandy Cluness reacted angrily to the news and said the council would be making the “strongest possible representations” to NorthLink for the jobs to be retained in Lerwick.

Shetland MSP Tavish Scott also voiced his dismay, saying: “I am extremely concerned by the news that NorthLink wants to remove the finance function from their Lerwick Office, with the associated loss of jobs.

“I have discussed this with Sandy Cluness … and we want to work hard together to make the case for these NorthLink jobs to be retained in Lerwick.”
