Folk and acoustic CD back for Christmas

THE SHETLAND Christmas carol CD/card is back by popular demand.

Over 50,000 copies of the CD have been sold to date and a further 50,000 are available for distribution and sale this year. Sisters Freda Leask and Mandy Tait were initially approached by an organisation called The Beacon Music Trust to combine art and music and produce a quality CD/Christmas card containing a collection of Christmas carols arranged in a folk/acoustic style.

Beacon funded the whole project, with the aim of selling a large quantity at a low price. The album is performed and recorded by some of Shetland’s top musicians and has had airplay on local and national radio. It even featured as album of the week on the popular Iain Anderson’s late night programme and has received feedback from as far away as Australia.

A dedicated website has been constructed with music to sample on line.

Biographies and photographs of participating artistes have also been posted.

Participating musicians are: Shoormal, Sheila Henderson, Eunice Henderson, Erin Sandison, Jillian Isbister, May and Mackie Sutherland, Rhonda Simpson, Jenny Keldie, Mandy Tait, Fred Polson, Dana Watt, JJ Jamieson and Brian Nicholson.

Following the huge success of the project, Beacon has made it available to a wider number of organisations and individuals, worldwide, by enabling people to order online. Packs of 10, 100 and 500 are available from www.beaconmusic.co.uk.

Locally the CDs will be available at various outlets including: Clive’s Record Shop, High Level Music Shop, Sound Service Station, the Christian Bookshop, The North Bridge Shop in Cunningsburgh and CLAN in the Toll Clock Shopping Centre. At the amazing price of £10 for 10, all profits this year will go to the CLAN 1,2,3 appeal.
