Brae swimmers pull out stops

Two Brae Junior High School pupils went to Glasgow last week to represent Shetland schools in the Scottish national swimming finals.

Felix Gifford swam in the 15/16 age group and Tom Raikes took part in the 17/19 age group.

In the first session both boys swam the 100m butterfly. Felix finished fifth and was the second fastest 15-year-old with a time of 1.03.08 which breaks the Shetland age group record when converted to short course 1.01.48.

In the following heat Tom also swam well to come eighth.

In the second session the boys swam the 200m freestyle. Again Felix broke the Shetland record when his time was converted (2.04.90) 2.01.70. This gave him sixth place and he was the third best 15-year-old.

Tom pulled out all the stops to come eighth and this time he broke his age group and open Shetland records with (2.03.48) 2.00.28, coming even nearer to going under the two minute barrier.
