Bobby’s landscapes and Jim’s seascapes on view

Da Gadderie is to host two concurrent exhibitions, inspired by Shetland scenes, land and seascapes: Bobby Robertson’s Oil and Water Do Mix and Jim Tait’s Da Tait Gadderie.

Bobby takes his inspiration from the traditional Shetland scene. The majority of paintings in his exhibition are watercolours, his favourite medium. However, he has included a couple of oil on board “composites” and a charcoal and chalk portrait, one of his first works.

Jim’s exhibition consists of a fairly representative selection of his oil paintings, and will be of particular interest to lovers of marine art. Created over the past five years, the works are a mixture of landscape and seascape, with the “nort boats” and fishing vessels featuring strongly.

Exhibitions officer John Hunter said: “It’s great for the museum and archives to be able to host these two exhibitions at the same time. It shows how traditional themes are still inspiring and challenging local artists.

“Although they tackle the subjects with different techniques, both Bobby and Jim are exploring themes that are close to their hearts. This is conveyed by Jim through his attention to detail and by Bobby through his ability to capture an impression and atmosphere of a scene.”

The exhibition runs from tomorrow until 16th March.
