Grant races to victory with excellent display of pedal and leg power

The Shetland Triathlon Club held a duathlon on Sunday morning from Clickimin, consisting of a two-mile run, a nine-mile cycle ride and finishing with another two-mile run.

The race was won by Andrew Grant in an impressive 53 minutes 26 seconds, with John-William Simpson finishing second and John Anderson third.

Others taking part were Lyndsey Henderson, Ewan Stirling, Andrea Holmes and Robin Atkinson. Stirling did well in his first event and finished strongly, but unfortunately Atkinson was forced to withdraw during the second run because of cramp.

The next event will be on 15th March, meeting at Tingwall Hall at 11am. For more info contact the club at admin@shetlandtriathlonclub.co.uk Meanwhile two Shetland triathletes will step out of their comfort zone tomorrow to take on their hardest challenge yet. Robin Atkinson and Shane Winson will each attempt to row 75 kilometres on indoor rowing machines to raise money for the CLAN 1,2,3 appeal.

There will be no shortage of blisters, aches and pains as the pair attempt to row the distance from Fair Isle to Lerwick, but hopefully with support and donations they can push on through to complete the challenge, which will take around five hours.

The challenge begins at Clickimin at 11am and people can make a donation at www.justgiving.com/75km-row
