Fisherman airlifted

A fisherman was airlifted to hospital after becoming ill on his boat in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The crewman was taken from the Peterhead-registered Sagittarius suffering from severe abdominal pains 60 miles north east of Lerwick. He was airlifted by the Sumburgh-based coastguard search and rescue helicopter shortly after 2am and taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick.

It followed another incident earlier in the week, when an oil worker on board the Clair platform 80 miles north west of Sumburgh had to be airlifted to hospital with a head injury. He was later discharged after treatment.
