Coastguard helicopter airlifts injured man to hospital

The coastguard helicopter Rescue 102 airlifted an injured man from a North Sea rig to Lerwick on Tuesday.

A call came to Aberdeen Coastguard at 9.53am that a man had dislocated his shoulder on board the mobile semi-submersible drilling rig Transocean John Shaw in the Magnus field.

Shetland Coastguard was alerted, and the helicopter left Sumburgh at 10.23am, arriving at the rig at 11.28am. The helicopter brought the man back to Tingwall at 12.30pm, from where a waiting ambulance took him to hospital. The man was treated in A&E and admitted to the ward. A hospital spokeswoman said he was “fine”.
