Great serving from Los helps JBT team to win

JBT had a straight-sets victory over Burra in the BP Sullom Voe ladies’ volleyball league match played last week.

Burra 0, JBT 3
(16-25, 9-25, 21-25)

Burra took the first serve and had a steady start but JBT were hot on their heels and it was point for point to 6-6. JBT pulled ahead to 14-7, forcing Burra to call a time out. This didn’t halt JBT as they came back on court and pulled ahead. Burra fought for every point but JBT had the upper hand and won the set 25-16.

JBT led from the outset in the second set. Valeska Voelschow’s powerful serve got Burra in the running to even the score at 7-7. JBT regained control and their good organisation saw them pull ahead, with great serves from Monika Los. Burra couldn’t match JBT and they took the set convincingly 25-9.

Burra had to pull out all the stops in the third set if they were to take any points. Again it was Valeska who served them ahead to a 6-0. Burra maintained their lead with some powerful hits from Stacey Laurenson. JBT regained their composure with good play from Mandy Phillips and Naomi Johnson, enabling them to catch up with Burra and eventually take the lead to win the set 25-21.

Most valuable player for Burra was Stacey Laurenson, while Monika Los took the honours for JBT.
