Darts team lose out to Orkney in inter-county

Orkney have defeated Shetland in this year’s darts inter-county match, played in the Kirkwall British Legion last Friday.

The home side opted to play the singles first, and due to being the better at finishing found themselves with a 7-1 lead with Paul Tait being the sole winner. Further wins for Roger Irvine, Barry Couper and Jim Wood in the singles cut the deficit to 8-4.

Shetland carried on with a mini revival in the doubles, but Orkney’s finishing proved better and they ran out winners by 11-7, lifting the cup for the first time since 2003.

Earlier this month the West First and Second Division Select defeated their East counterparts after a close run game. Ronnie Johnson and Iris Anderson took the SDA Mixed Doubles. The West were victorious again in the Annual North, South, East, West held in Brae.

Jimmy Sales won the Buildbase Open Singles beating Gena Smith in the final, who had beaten some high quality men’s players on her way.

The SDA would like to thank the Lerwick and Scalloway Legions and the Brae Boating Club for hosting the events.

The next tournaments to be held are the divisional qualifiers on 8th May for the right to play either Gary Anderson or Phil Taylor. There will also be an open tournament for the same prize on the following night. Both events are in the Lerwick Legion with names in for 7pm for an early start.

More details on these events will follow.

The first round of the summer cups, due to be played on 15th May, will be rescheduled due to the visit from the PDA Superstars. A bus has been organised for this event, for details call Jim Wood 07766 208765 or Neal Redfern on 07733 168146.

Could all members please hand back trophies to the committee as soon as possible.
