Allotments for Mossbank

They have already proved popular with green-fingered food fans in Sandwick, and now allotments are set to appear in the North Mainland too.

Councillors gave their backing to a proposal to develop a newly identified site in Mossbank.

The move follows a widespread flurry of interest last year in the possibility of growing food on a small scale.

Following public consultation the council was inundated with almost 200 requests for plots from families, schools and community groups.

The Shetland Allotments Association was duly formed, and a report before members of the infrastructure committee recommended the scheme be developed in Mossbank.

Alastair Cooper moved the recommendation at Tuesday’s infrastructure committee meeting and he was seconded by Addie Doull.
