Swimming camp voted a great success

Fourteen swimmers from Edinburgh’s Heart of Midlothian Swimming Club returned to Shetland last weekend for their second camp in two years.

Eleven swimmers from the Clickimin pool training squad and two from the South Mainland club joined the camp and it was an intense weekend.

The first two-hour pool session started at 9am on Saturday morning, followed by land work team games.

The afternoon pool session proved to be quite a challenge for the swimmers with the older swimmers and many of the younger swimmers in the squads completing a 6,000 metre set.

Sunday morning was another early start with a pool session followed by more land training.

The final pool session on Sunday afternoon involved an hour of training plus a small competition.

To finish the weekend a cannon relay was held between the two squads which the Clickimin pool training narrowly won.

The combined metres swum by the two squads was 500km – a gruelling weekend but well worth it.

The local swimmers said they would like to thank Hearts coach Cheryl Calder who led the sessions, and Pauline and Dave from Hearts for feeding both squads on Saturday evening.
