Teams poised to do battle in football’s Parish Cup

Parish Cup football teams are getting ready to do battle again in the annual competition.

With the Parish Cup Association’s aim to encourage football in the rural areas the committee are delighted to welcome Bressay to this year’s competition.

This year sees Arthur Johnston stand down as secretary after 10 years of valuable service to the association. The new secretary is Ian Simpson.

Preliminary round – tomorrow: Cunningsburgh v West United at Cunningsburgh (6.30pm). Saturday 6th June: Unst v Sandwick at Baltasound (3pm); Burra v Southend at Hamnavoe (6pm).

Quarter-finals (to be played by end of June): Delting v Unst or Sandwick; Cunningsburgh or Westside United v Bressay; Whalsay v Whitedale; Yell v Burra or Southend.

Semi-finals (to be played by end of July): Cunningsburgh/Westside Utd/Bressay v Delting /Unst/Sandwick; Yell /Burra/Southend v Whalsay/Whitedale.

The final is scheduled for Seafield on Saturday, 29th August, with a 5.30pm kick-off.

The Parish Cup under-21 seven-a-side competition will be held on 20th June at Baltasound in Unst. Contact Kevin Main (07795 272053) or Gary Hunter (07881 886567) for registration and more information.

A spokesman said all teams looked forward to the high level of interest and support that had been shown in previous years.
