Vunk Fest, a rock music festival and an art exhibition relating to music, will be taking place in Lerwick and Voe next month.

The two events are designed to allow people to interact with rock music and art, as well as providing an opportunity to hear bands that have never before played in the isles, and also supporting and highlighting the talents of local musicians and artists.

The first event, on Saturday 11th July at the Norscot Angling Club, is a rock concert with bands both local and incoming covering a range of styles.

Headlined by the successful Glasgow-based Attica Rage as a finale to their European tour, the concert will also feature award-winning Stolen Order from Inverness and bands from Shetland, Orkney and England.

The full line-up is: Poison Popcorn, Hidden Agenda, El Pedro, Bacchus, Dirty Ride, A Thousand Lies, Ten Tonne Dozer, Stolen Order and Attica Rage.

The concert, for over-18s, begins at 6.30pm and closes at 1am. Tickets cost £10 and are available from the Shetland Box Office at Islesburgh Community Centre on (01595) 745555 The second part of Vunk Fest, on Sunday 12th July, is an exhibition of art works from Shetland and Orkney contributors presenting their views of music and musicians in a range of styles.

The exhibition, at the Pierhead in Voe, will also feature a selection of images captured of the bands playing over the weekend. There will be acoustic music from Jordan Ogg, Poison Popcorn and others from the previous night’s concert. People also have the opportunity to meet some of the artists and members of the bands in an informal environment.

The exhibition will be open from 12.30pm to 7pm with everyone welcome and no admission charge. Some of those contributing art works are Jono Sandilands, Tirval Scott and Karen Bruce.
