Six-piece band to play gigs

A six-piece rock/pop band from Edinburgh will be in Shetland this weekend for a series of gigs around the isles.

Skellum will be playing at the Northern Lights in Brae tonight followed by a show at the Symbister Hall in Whalsay tomorrow evening.

Two of the band members have Shetland connections with sax player Dougal Burnett’s mother hailing from Whalsay and singer and guitarist Dave Barclay’s grandparents also originally coming from the isles.

Skellum, who have been together since 2004, have recently released their debut EP Behemoth. As well as being on sale digitally, the band will have CDs available to buy at all their Shetland gigs.

Doors for tonight’s show in Brae open at 9pm, where support will be provided by up-and-coming local folk/rock band Callishang. Admission is £5.
