Girl, 11, knocked down and badly hurt by car in accident at the Ness

An 11-year-old girl was badly hurt when she was knocked down by a car outside the Mainland’s shop in Dunrossness.

It is understood the girl was hit at around 12.45pm on Tuesday after she got off a bus. She was taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick for treatment. A hospital spokeswoman described the girl’s condition as “serious but stable”. On Tuesday night it is believed she was to be flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for further treatment.
