Seven people have been charged with drugs offences after a series of home searches in Shetland. Officers and dogs targeted eight addresses and seized drugs including heroin, amphetamine and cannabis, as well as money. Northern Constabulary described it as a “very successful operation”.

Two men appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on drugs offences on Monday.

Andrew McAlister, 46, of Hardbrakes Place, Dunrossness, appeared in private on petition under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. He made no plea or declaration, was committed for further examination and released on bail.

Ian McAlister, 44, of Bruce Crescent, Lerwick, also appeared in private on petition under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. He made no plea or declaration, was committed for further examination and released on bail.

Chief inspector David Bushell, the new area commander for the isles, said: “We will continue to take robust action against drug misuse in Shetland.”
