Whalsay stalwart is player of the year

The Shetland Football Association held their annual awards night at the Shetland Hotel on 19th of September.

The association President Magnus Flaws welcomed all the players, coaches and volunteers present to the night and thanked the various league and team sponsors for their continued support over the season. The assembled crowd were then treated to a excellent meal, after which the trophies and awards for the 2009 season were handed out.

Whalsay were presented with the Association Cup as the 2009 G&S Flooring Premier league champions as well as the Madrid Cup and the Reserve league knock-out cup.

Whitedale received the County Shield and the Manson Cup and Delting were presented with the Fraser Cup.

Celtic B were presented with the Queens Hotel Shield as 2009 Shetland Chiropractic reserve league champions.

Spurs B were winners of the Bloomfield Cup for the second season in a row.

Karl Williamson of Whalsay was the winner of the Shetland Football Association’s player of the year and Ross McDougal of Delting was the clear winner in the Premier league top goal-scorers chart.

The night was then rounded off by comedian Gary Little who treated the crowd to an energetic and humorous trip through life’s experiences.

An association spokesman would like to thank Brudolff Hotels and their staff for providing an excellent night’s entertainment.
