Glasgow man facing drugs charges is kept locked up

A Glasgow man accused of drugs offences was remanded in custody after appearing in private at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.

Thomas Shields, 27, of the city’s Glenfinnan Street, stood in the dock on a petition alleging he had contravened the Misuse of Drugs Act. He made no plea or declaration and was committed for further examination. He will appear again next Monday.

The case came after police seized heroin which a spokesman said was worth £17,000 from a man at Sumburgh Airport on Friday.

Acting detective sergeant Iain Souter said: “The seizure of drugs being taken to Shetland continues and is helped with information provided by the public.  Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lerwick Police on (01595) 692110 or the Safer Shetland Action Line on (01595) 694544.”
