Whalsay ferry services disrupted for Symbister pier maintenance work

Ferry services to and from Whalsay will be affected this weekend to allow maintenance work to be carried out at the Symbister pier.

The work means the last ro-ro service from Symbister on Saturday night will depart at 7pm. Meanwhile Saturday’s last ferry to Whalsay will leave Laxo or Vidlin at 8.30pm.

All remaining runs on Saturday will be for foot passengers only with the Linga, which is due to return to full service on Monday after her recent troubles.

Should the Linga not be available the Filla will be used instead, with passengers loading over the side from the old breakwater.

Services on Sunday will see the Linga or the Filla leave from Symbister from the old breakwater at 6.30am.
A return sailing will be made at 7.10am. The Filla will then head for Skerries and its 9am departure.

Sailings from 7.50am from Symbister to noon from Symbister will be available for foot passengers only.
Normal service will resume from 12.45pm at Laxo.

The work was due to be carried out earlier this month but was cancelled after the Linga crashed into the pier at Laxo.
