Adverse weather hits north boat sailings again

Poor weather has again caused problems for those planning to travel on the boat.

The Hjaltland will remain in Aberdeen overnight on Monday after her northbound sailing was cancelled for the second night running due to a forecast of severe gale force winds.

The Hrossey did make the southbound journey on Sunday, arriving in Aberdeen at 4.30am, and she is expected to arrive in Lerwick as normal on Tuesday morning.

A spokesman for NorthLink said: “It is always the master’s decision on whether the boat sails and the master has taken the decision not to sail.”

Last weekend several people were injured on the northbound sailing when worse than forecast weather hit the North Sea.
