Five battle way to good times in winter duathlon

Shetland Triathlon Club held the third of the winter duathlons at Tingwall on Sunday morning in near perfect weather.

The course consisted of a 2.2 mile run, a 14 mile cycle and another 2.2 mile run. Five contestants lined up ready for the first run, all hoping for fast times.

Charlotte Black took an early lead, returning to transition one in a very fast 14 minutes 34 seconds, followed closely by Maurice Fraser seven seconds behind and then Andrew Hughson, improving massively from the previous month.

Maurice showed his experience in transition one, managing to start the bike leg in front of Charlotte, a lead which he was determined to extend.

By the end of the cycle race Maurice had increased his lead to over six minutes, followed again by Charlotte and Andrew also setting fast personal times.

The final run was a painful experience as usual with times slower for all but Charlotte who held an outstanding pace, only 21 seconds slower than her first run.

Final results: Maurice Fraser 1:12:56 (PB); Charlotte Black 1:18:17; Andrew Hughson 1:25:38 (PB); Tommy Dedman 1:27:46 (PB); Tim Ash 1:29:42 (PB).

The next duathlon will be held on Sunday 13th December at Tingwall Hall for a 10am start. More information and full results can be found at www.shetlandtriathlonclub.co.uk
