Hot on the heels of their Best Album of the Year award at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards for All Dressed in Yellow, Fiddlers’ Bid are to play two special New Year concerts in the isles.

The first gig, entitled “Fiddlers’ Bid’s First Fittin’ Night” takes place in the Muckle Roe Hall on New Year’s night. It will be a fully acoustic concert and there will also be a few festive surprises lined up for good measure. The concert is billed as a very family orientated event to make sure that everyone can join in the fun.

“The ‘First Fittin’ concert promises to be a very special night indeed for everyone involved,” said the band’s manager Davie Gardner. “It would be great if those audience members who play an instrument could also take these along to the gig, as an informal ‘session’ to follow the concert would be an ideal way to round things off in true Shetland New Year style.” There will be no licensed bar at the event, but folk are welcome to bring along their own drams.

The second concert, in the Whiteness and Weisdale Hall on Sunday 3rd January, is entitled “Fiddlers’ Bid’s New Year Spree” and promises to be “a real musical hoolie” according to Maurice Henderson from the band. “If you’re looking for an excuse to extend your New Year celebrations and have a big night oot with some great live music, then this will hopefully be it,” he said. Here again the band promise “some additional surprises” during the evening.

Tickets for the Muckle Roe concert, priced £12 and £8 concession, are available from Peter Johnson by phoning (01806) 522 671 or mobile 07876 630 899. Bairns under five are free of charge. The concert starts at 8pm. Doors open at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the Whiteness and Weisdale spree will go on sale shortly from J & K Anderson, Whiteness, Robinson and Morrison’s, Weisdale, and High Level Music, Lerwick. Tickets for this gig are priced £15 and £10 concession and all under-18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. There will be a licensed bar available at this event with the gig kicking off at 9pm. Doors open at 8pm.
