Young pony riders presented with their rosettes

Last Sunday saw the presentation of the awards for the 2009 National Shetland Pony Performance Scheme. The scheme was started in 1980 to promote the use of the registered pedigree Shetland pony as a performance pony and it recognises the achievements and successes of young riders and their ponies.

Shetland riders and ponies face strong competition as this is a national scheme encompassing young riders and ponies from throughout the UK and to be placed in the top 10 in any of the categories is quite an achievement. It is a demonstration of the hard work and dedication put in by the young riders from Shetland that they all did so well.

Peter Hunter of the Clivocast Shetland Pony Stud in Unst was invited to present the riders with their rosettes as a representative from a stud which has bred ponies who have gone on to do well under saddle. The highest placed pony in the awards scheme this year was the four-year-old piebald gelding Clivocast Nemo who was bred in Unst. In recognition of this achievement the Clivocast Stud was presented with a rosette and prize from the Central Prefix Registry.

A fun afternoon was had by all and huge thanks must go to everyone who helped out and attended on Sunday, in particular June Brown and Mr Hunter.
