Turbines will be 475ft high

The super yacht Lady B in Lerwick Harbour recently generated a lot of comment, not least how the single carbon mast at 179ft (approx. 54 metres) towered over the town (The Shetland Times front page, 9th July). An amazing view could be seen from Sound entering the town from South Mainland.

The proposed Viking Energy onshore windfarm has fuelled a lot of comment as well. Folk regularly confess to being unaware of the scale of the 150 turbines. Using this yacht mast as a yardstick, the proposed onshore windfarm turbines would each be 475ft high (approx. 145 metres).

The proposal by Viking Energy is to raise 150 on our hills, running down through the communities and environmentally valuable peatlands.

If Viking Energy were paid the same rate for their un-reliable electricity as coal/gas/nuclear power stations, it would take over 100 years to re-coup their investment.
    Coal/gas/nuclear – 2.5 – 3.5p per unit generated.
Wind – 46.35p per unit generated.
The idiotic price paid for renewables is simply added to our electricity bills as another stealth tax.

The Scottish numpty parliament have commited us to 50% of our electricity from renewables by 2020.
Can anyone detect a problem here?????
