Brit-nominated guitarist Newton Faulkner to play in isles

Guitar strumming chart topper Newton Faulkner has announced he is set to play a gig in Shetland as part of a tour of the Highlands and Islands.

The British musician, who had success with releases from this 2007 album Hand Built By Robots, including Dream Catch Me and a cover of Portishead’s Teardrop, will play the Clickimin centre on 11th November.

The tour of the Highlands and Islands also takes in Orkney, Inverness, Thurso and Stornoway.

Known for his unique picking playing style, the Brit-nominated artist has also had success with follow up gold-selling album Rebuilt By Humans, released in September 2009.

The album is so called after Faulkner broke his wrist, completely dislocating his right hand. Bad news for a finger-picking guitar player.

However after learning of a new treatment using a special plate to bond the shattered bone, Faulkner’s hand was sliced open and a plate bolted to his bones using nine pins and within a matter of days, he was sneakily playing guitar again, his own form of DIY physio.

Tickets, priced at £20, are available from 9am on Saturday 25th September at www.seetickets.com or www.ticketmaster.co.uk. Alternatively they can be bought from High Level Music in Lerwick.

Teardrop is actually a Massive Attack song, not Portishead! 🙂
