Pair in court after alleged fracas at football match

Getting too excited at a football match landed two men in the dock at Lerwick Sheriff Court today.

Alistair Fullerton, 50, of Meadowfield Crescent, Scalloway, and Brydon Goodlad, 38, of Stove, Walls, had both been spectators at a football match between Whitedale and Scalloway at Strom Park, Whiteness, on 11th June, which Scalloway won 4-3.

The men appeared side by side in court, with Fullerton pleading not guilty to allegedly conducting himself in a disorderly manner, shouting and swearing at match officials and behaving in a racially aggravated way. He will proceed to trial on 2nd December.

Goodlad, who had previously pleaded guilty by letter to behaving in a disorderly manner, shouting and swearing at match officials, challenging one to a fight and breaching the peace, will have to appear again for sentencing on that date as the court heard the two cases could not be separated.
