Black ice to blame for three road accidents on same stretch of A971

Police are appealing to motorists to keep their speed down after three separate crashes on black ice this morning.

All happened within a short distance of each other on the A971 Tresta to Walls road. No-one was injured in any of the accidents.

The first incident was at 8.08am when a council van crashed into a barrier, coming to rest at an angle and blocking the road. Fire appliances from Walls, Lerwick and Scalloway attended the scene.

The second was at 8.15am on the same stretch of road when a private van skidded on the ice and came to rest on its roof.

Police say there was a third incident on the same road later in the morning, although no details were available.

They are urging motorists to watch their speed and drive in accordance with conditions on the road.
