NorthLink’s new freight vessel due to begin service

NorthLink’s new freight boat Helliar will begin service with the company tomorrow, although part of her proposed first day’s schedule may change due to a poor weather forecast.

The 122-metre Helliar, which replaces the 37-year-old freight vessel Clare, is expected to arrive in Aberdeen from Liverpool, where she was undergoing modifications, at 8am tomorrow and depart for Kirkwall and Lerwick at 3pm.

The Kirkwall call of the Helliar is currently under review, however, because of the adverse weather expected. A further update will follow at 10am tomorrow.

A sister ship to the Hildasay, the Helliar, built in 1997, will have a formal naming ceremony at Kirkwall on 17th January.
