Latest addition to NorthLink fleet named in Orkney

A re-naming ceremony was held today for NorthLink’s new freight vessel MV Helliar – the latest addition to the fleet.

The Helliar will perform her duties alongside sister ship MV Hildasay, which came into service last year.

Helliar joined the service as the much-anticipated replacement for the long-serving Clare.

At a ceremony in Kirkwall she was formally re-named and welcomed to the fleet by NorthLink’s ship-naming competition winners Anne Gascoigne and Dave Ridealgh, who stay in Orkney.

NorthLink also used the occasion to highlight a new daily freight service into Orkney, which is scheduled to begin on January 24th.

The company carries freight for Orkney on the existing service out of Aberdeen and on the Pentland Firth route from Scrabster to Stromness. However today’s development will provide daily freight deliveries into the Orkney capital.
