Council appoints new head of housing

The council has appointed Anita Jamieson as temporary head of housing services following the departure of Chris Medley.

Whalsay-born Ms Jamieson, who lives in Virkie, has been service manager in housing business support for the past 10 years.

Appointed to the new post for an initial period of six months, she said: “I have a real interest in housing and the key part it plays in all communities. There’s a lot going on, both nationally and locally, and I look forward to the opportunity to be further involved.

“I am lucky that there is a great staff team in the housing service who will all be working hard with me at meeting the challenges we face.”

Married with two children, Ms Jamieson is a graduate in business studies and languages who was educated at the Anderson High School and Symbister House Junior High.

Welcoming her appointment, housing spokesman Allison Duncan said: “Anita brings a wealth of experience and local insight to what is a very demanding job. I have every confidence she will lead the housing department in an effective and dynamic way during what are very difficult times.”
