Silver medal for Donnie Price in national swimming championships

Shetland swimmer Donnie Price won the silver medal in the 1500m freestlye at the Scottish National Age Group Championships in Glasgow this afternoon.

Donnie, who is competing in the 14-year-old age group, had a fight on his hands and came from behind to secure the second place. Amy Harper put in a personal best performace in the morning’s 400m freestyle, narrowly missing out on the bronze medal.

The pair are among 10 swimmers at the event in the Tollcross Leisure Centre and are joined by Andrea Strachan, Callum MacGregor, Megan Petursdottir and Sarah Williamson from Lerwick Swim Team, Felix Gifford, Calum MacCall and Logan Jamieson from Delting Dolphins and Donnie’s brother Eddie from South Mainland.

Andrea Strachan will go into this evening’s final as the second fastest qualifier in the 16-18 year olds 100m breaststroke. Callum Macgregor and Felix Gifford have also qualified for evening finals in the 100m freestyle. Felix will also contest the 200m butterfly final, for which he is the fourth fastest qualifier.

Sarah Williamson and Megan Petursdottir will also be in finals action this evening, Sarah in the 13-year-old girls’ 100m breaststroke and Megan in the 14-year-old girls’ 100m breaststroke.
