Prospect of stormy weather causes delays on NorthLink services

NorthLink is delaying the sailing of the Hjaltland from Aberdeen tonight until midnight due to a westerly storm forecast for today for the north of Scotland. She is expected to arrive in Lerwick at 2pm tomorrow.

Despite the five-hour delay in departure, passengers are instructed to check-in as usual by 6.30pm.

The bad weather has also prompted NorthLink to cancel the Hrossey’s stop-off at Kirkwall tonight. She will sail straight to Aberdeen, leaving at the scheduled time of 5.30pm.

The Met Office is forecasting wind speeds as high as 80mph in gusts, which is up to hurricane force. The wind is expected to ease late this evening.
