Young drink driver banned for two years and fined £700

A young man caught at almost twice the drink driving limit was disqualified from driving for two years and fined £700 when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court.

Jordan Farrer, 19, of Port Arthur House in Scalloway, will also have to resit his test before he is allowed his licence back.

He was caught driving on Lerwick’s Holmsgarth Road with 153 milligrammes of alcohol in his blood – the legal limit is 80 milligrammes.

The offence took place shortly before 1am on 4th June.

The court heard police pulled Farrer over after they saw him driving without his lights on.

He tested positive and was taken to the police station.

Sheriff Graeme Napier told Farrer: “This is an absolutely ridiculous amount of alcohol.”

Farrer can reduce his driving ban by six months if he completes a rehabilitation course. However the sheriff ordered he resit the test, because he only got his licence in March last year.
