New health centre proposed for Scalloway, according to government

A new health centre is on the cards for Scalloway, it was announced by the Scottish government today. But NHS Shetland chiefs warned it was very early in the potential project’s life and no timescale and no location have been specified.

Chairman of NHS Shetland Ian Kinniburgh said: “The good news is that the government has accepted that we can make a case for it [the new health centre] with the new capital funding arrangements. It has opened up a potential avenue to explore funding which we couldn’t count on previously. But it’s very early days.”

The centre could be one of a series of major new community health projects across Scotland worth £200 million which are currently being explored for delivery through the “hub” initiative, of which NHS Shetland is a member. This central funding mechanism brings together public bodies to ensure better public building and enhanced services at improved value for money to the taxpayer.

Surely someone was aware of this before they took the pharmacy away from the surgery.

To propose a new Heath Centre with no pharmacy facility, how short sighted. Don’t these different departments ever talk to each other or are they too busy ticking boxes.
