Driver admits being over the limit

A motorist admitted drink driving but denied other motoring offences when he appeared in court today.

Matthew Smith, 26, of Harbour Street, Lerwick pleaded guilty to driving while more than twice over the legal alcohol limit, having 77 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 35.

He also pleaded guilty to driving in Harbour Street without insurance and admitted failing to co-operate with police at Lerwick Police Station when they tried to get him to take a breath test.

But he pleaded not guilty to taking and driving away the car from without the consent of the owner and to driving while disqualified.

Honorary Sheriff Eric Peterson called for reports and released Smith on bail pending his next court appearance.
