Shetland fencer Stephen Rocks has been selected as part of the Great Britain sabre team to fence in Moscow from 15th to 18th March, an Olympic qualifying event.

Stephen is also fencing in another Olympic qualifier competition in Padua, Italy, at the end of this month.

This weekend Stephen is meeting his coach Andy Alderman for a training camp.

Also attending the camp are other Shetland fencers based on the mainland – Sophie Drosso, Paul Hibbert and Kate Manson, the latter making a welcome return to the sport.

This training camp is prior to Andy going to Jersey as national Scottish coach for the junior commonwealth games.

Stephen Rocks remains the number one Scottish fencer and a spokesman said everyone from the local club wished him well.

At the weekend Shetland swimmer Andrea Strachan qualified for the London Olympics trials.
