Shetland – and Up-Helly-A’ in particular – are to feature on terrestrial television’s only remaining travel show next week.

VisitScotland and Promote Shetland brought up a crew from Channel 5’s Heaven on Earth, who filmed during the fire festival for a programme that will go out at 7pm on Thursday.

“Both VisitScotland and Promote Shetland had to react very quickly when we heard that there was an opportunity to bring the Heaven on Earth film crew to Shetland, as this is the only current travel show on terrestrial TV,” said VisitScotland’s island manager Steve Mathieson.

“The crew were absolutely blown away by the warmth of the reception they received and the beauty of the islands, even in winter, plus the scale and intensity of our world-renowned fire festival. The show goes to air at just the right time of year to do the most good, and the exposure it provides will be a welcome bonus at the start of our tourist season.”
