Police name young man who died on board fishing boat

The young man who died on board the small fishing boat Braveheart berthed at Collafirth Pier on Monday night has been named by police as Robert John Goodlad of Hamnavoe, Burra.

Police, fire, ambulance and coastguard services were alerted to the incident shortly after 11pm, when another person on the vessel reported the 23-year-old unconscious on board. Resuscitation was attempted but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police described the cause of death as “non-suspicious” but said it was still under investigation. It is not believed to be as a result of an accident, however. A report is being sent to the procurator fiscal.
