New players will join hockey team’s Aberdeen trip

The Shetland women’s hockey team travels away this weekend to take on Aberdeen Ladies Hockey Club seconds in the last 32 of the District Cup.

The players have been training hard since the season in Shetland finished and with some more new faces coming in to experience a chance to play on the mainland against other teams, it can only be good for the future of Shetland hockey.

The players travelling to Aberdeen for the game are: Toni Sidgwick (captain), Lorriane Johnson, Megan Hibbert, Janetta Copland, Julie Kirkness, Nicola Blance (all Delting); Karis Irvine, Abbey Irvine, Maggie Kay Irvine, Maree Simpson, Dianne Shearer (all Whalsay); Stacey Laurenson and Kristan Robertson (both Burra); Mhari Moncrieff (Scalloway); and Ava Sim (Spurs).

The squad and coaching team said they wanted to thank Shetland Hockey Association, DITT and NorthLink for the continued support, making the third year of entry possible.

The fixture is being played at the Aberdeen Sports Village on Sunday at noon. The players would be grateful to all Shetlanders in the area if they could make it along to support the team.
