Gas pipeline consultation extended
Communities are to be given longer to respond to SSE’s proposals for a gas pipeline which could supply fuel for its planned replacement power station.
A deadline for objections and comments had been set early in January but that has been extended to Friday 1st February.
Scottish and Southern Energy held public exhibitions in Lerwick and Voe at the end of last month, which were attended by more than 100 people. A report was also published by SSE to start the environmental impact assessment process for the pipeline.
The proposed pipeline would run approximately 42km from Sullom Voe Terminal to the preferred site for the new power station, near Rova Head.
Jim Lawrie, Development Manager for the replacement power station and pipeline said: “We are very grateful to the members of the public who took the time to come and meet us at the recent consultation events. We have already received some very useful feedback from landowners and members of the public which will assist in developing our proposals further.
“We are conscious that not everyone could attend the exhibitions and that, with the Christmas period approaching, people may need a bit longer than normal to consider our proposal. In light of that, we have extended the deadline for initial comments until Friday 1 February 2013. “
The scoping report is available at www.sse.com/Lerwick/GasPipeline and it has also been sent to relevant community councils. A paper copy isavailable at Shetland Library.

I must be missing something – i just dont get it – Why the fixation with having the Powerstation in da toon? Surely it makes more sense to locate the Powerstation at Sullom Voe than it does to drive a 42Km pipeline? – Can someone explain why it MUST be in Lerwick?
