Rugby team’s promotion finally confirmed

The Shetland rugby team’s promotion to the Caledonia Regional League Division 2 North next season was confirmed yesterday by the Scottish Rugby Union.

The team completed its fixtures several weeks ago and was sitting equal top of the Caledonia Division 3 North with Deeside on 43 points from 10 games.

However, two postponed matches, where both Kinloss Eagles and Deeside elected to concede the points, were still to be ratified by the SRU.

Shetland coach Bryan Leask said both he and the players were glad that the situation had been resolved.

He said: “[It is a] big step up and with over 20 games to play next year we will need a decent squad to fulfil the fixtures. Can’t wait!”

What a nervous wait! Great news- well done again. SRU have made the correct call- it will be a jump up in standard. I am sure your squad will cope. A good pre-season will be required.
