New cafe to open in vacant Karibuni site

A new cafe will be opening at the end of next week in the premises formerly occupied by Karibuni in Lerwick’s Harrison Square.

The venture will be run by Amanda Tait, as a cafe and takeaway, to be called Coffee and Keetchin. It will open on Saturday 13th July.

The cafe was previously run by social firm COPE, which still owns the building and which will continue to be involved in the new business through its catering arm.

COPE manager Ingrid Webb said: “COPE is pleased that there will be a new business taking over the vacant premises at Harrison Square.

“As the building is owned by COPE Ltd, we have worked closely with Amanda to ensure a smooth transition for her new business and are pleased to say that she has asked us to supply her with our well-loved soups on a daily basis. This is an excellent arrangement for COPE as it indirectly supports on-going participants’ work placements at COPE Catering where the soups will be produced. Amanda is also continuing with the popular coffee brand which was supplied from Karibuni.

“COPE would like to wish Amanda and her staff all the very best with their new business and look forward to working together into the future.”
