Tour boat runs aground

One of Shetland’s tourist charter vessels, the Alluvion, had to be rescued on Friday afternoon, after running aground at the back of Bressay.

Shetland Coastguard were called at around half past one, and Lerwick lifeboat was launched shortly afterwards. The Alluvion had ten passengers and two crew, all of whom were brought onboard the lifeboat. There were no injuries reported.

When the vessel was removed from the rocks and taken under tow it was discovered that she was taking on water, and a pump was installed to deal with the situation. However, on returning to Lerwick Harbour it was found that she was still taking on a significant quantity of water and so was brought to the SBS base for repairs.

Lerwick lifeboat returned to her berth with the Alluvion’s passengers and crew around 3.15pm, where they were met by a team from Shetland Coastguard.
