Spurs continue to dominate premier league

Spurs maintained their 100 per cent league record with a 4-0 victory over Thistle on Friday in the G&S Flooring Premier League.

A brace from Sam Ward and goals from Jordan Webb and Scott Morrison set Spurs on their way to victory and continued the team’s prolific goal-scoring form.

In the first four games of the G&S Flooring Premier League they have scored 17 goals. Their dominance is reflected in the league table, with Spurs eight points clear of nearest rivals  Delting.

Monday night’s results were:

Delting 1 – 1 Thistle
Veteran, Peter Peterson got the home side’s goal but Thistle equalised through a Delting own goal to make sure the spoils were shared.

Spurs 1 – 0 Whalsay
An important three points for the Milkbags with Lewis Kay getting the winning goal.

Whitedale 3 – 0 Celtic
Whitedale were three up with goals from Greg Tulloch, Duncan Anderson and Richard Sinclair but there was some late drama as goalkeeper  Erik Peterson was sent off and Jamie Duffy missed a penalty for the Hoops.

Being new to Shetland and having a love for football it was with great interest that I watched a very competitive game between Spurs and Whalsay, however I was amazed to see club linesmen able to run the rule on the offside decisions as this would not be accepted down where I come from. This played a huge part in the outcome of the game, in the 1st half alone there were 3 occasions a Whalsay player was through on goal with only the keeper to beat only to be flagged offside, I could clearly see from where I was standing the he was in fact well onside.
This must have been very frustrating for the away team as the were the best for long periods, played some good football and surely would have come away with something had a proper linesman been used.

Hi there Richard,As a referee in the local leagues we have a great struggle to get enough refs for the games far less having 2 assistants per game.as long as i can remember club linesman have been used in all games except cup semis and finals. If you would like to we are always trying to recruit more people to help out so hopefully we could put assistants in place for all top flight football, see shetland football assoc webpage for contacts.

Michael would you not agree that unless we have honesty, integrity and good sportsmanship then everything else falls short? It really is a shame that in this close knit community that we have sportspeople/teams who are out to win at any cost, by fair means or foul.

I agree James but i have always trusted club linesman over the years and if i think they are wrong then i will over rule the flag as ultimately the decision still rests with the referee.

On another note,Scalloway v Celtic game cancelled last night due to no referee being available and thats the 2nd game this week due to this circumstance.

    Not good.
