Fishing boat sinks in harbour
The crew of a fishing boat were rescued after the vessel ran aground to the north of Lerwick Harbour and sank.
Shetland Coastguard was alerted just before 6pm on Monday by the harbour master, reporting that the Banff-registered Prospect was in trouble.
She had gone aground on the Skibby Baa rocks (Robbie Ramsay’s Baa), said a coastguard spokesman.
The coastguard helicopter and Lerwick Lifeboat went to assist, as well as the Knab and the dive support vessel Valkyrie.
Four fishermen were rescued and no injuries were reported.
Six pumps were put on board the Prospect and as the tide rose she did re-float. However, the pumps could not cope with the ingress of water and she sank.
Decisions are yet to be made regarding a salvage or recovery plan for the stricken vessel. The Maritime & Coastguard Agency counter pollution team is monitoring the situation.
