Big police presence on Lerwick streets

A “highly visible” police presence was on the streets of Lerwick on Saturday night in the aftermath of the serious assault which left the community shocked.

A cordon had been in place on Burns Lane following the incident as investigations continue.

On Saturday evening Ch Insp MacInnes sought to reassure residents. He said police were following “a definite line of line of enquiry” and confirmed the incident involved “local Shetland residents”.

He added: “We want people to enjoy themselves responsibly and it is disappointing when these type of incidents occur as it affects the whole community.

“There will be a highly visible police presence in Lerwick Town centre overnight. If you have any information or concerns please approach my officers or contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800555111.”
