Creel boat towed to shore

Lerwick lifeboat was involved in a rescue of a small creel boat while out on exercise last night.

Shetland Coastguard tasked the lifeboat at 7.40pm to assist the 32-ft creel boat Hope, which had experienced engine failure 15 miles south of Lerwick and was drifting towards the shore in strong south-easterly winds.

The lifeboat secured a tow and the Hope, with one person on board, was taken into Grutness. The coastguard’s Sumburgh rescue team was watching from the shore and the ferry Hrossey, heading south, monitored the vessel’s drift onto the shore.

The Hope was alongside at Grutness at 10.45pm and the Sumburgh team helped in the berthing.
